Welcome to “Quick Hits” where all types of news will pop up so you can know what has happened around Illinois Central College and what is to come. In addition to these brief items, make sure to read all of our coverage on our website.

Past Events

On November 6, 2023, ICC literary programs “Between the Lines’ and “One Book One College” hosted a lecture in room 212cd concerning the novel, “Kindred”. Professor Andrea Walton explained in detail the concepts of trauma and time travel in literature. The themes of home and family, interracial relationships, history and trauma, and the concept of “black mammy” were also explored through PowerPoint and group discussion. A lengthy talk was held regarding the history of slavery and its effects. Dean of Humanities, Lonetta Oliver, Philosophy Instructor Justin Leura, and Information Librarian Amy Glass were also present and contributed with comments and questions.

On November 8, 2023, the lecture recital hall presented the documentary, “Fluddles”. Representatives from The Nature Conservancy, The Wetlands Initiative, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Ducks Unlimited, Turnstone Strategies, Peoria Audubon, ICC’s Student Association for the Environment, Peoria Wilds, and Sierra Club were present to answer questions. Fluddles director, Boy Dolgan discussed the documentary’s inception. ICC academic advisors Jen Fenner, Kristin Jacobson-Flex, and Thomas Haner were present for inquiries.

On November 14, counseling at I.C.C. hosted an event with the library called “Don’t get burnt out” on the East Peoria campus. This event was stocked with French toast, fruit, juice, fuse beads to make key chains, and coloring sheets. This was all to promote self-care and rest for their students.

Future events

The Starbucks in the East Peoria Coffee Lounge will be closed on Fridays until further notice. Further updates are to come later to our website. 

Harbinger is handing out bracelets with tags that contain QR codes to the podcast “Mind the GAP”! The link to our website is printed out as well! Reach out to us on our Instagram page for bracelets. Grab one while supplies last!

Join the Campus Activity Board to craft and decorate beautiful wreaths and mugs on November 15 at 10:00 a.m. Unleash your artistic flair in a fun and engaging atmosphere! Let your creativity bloom! The event will be hosted on the East Peoria Campus, Academic Building Student Lounge

Aurora University will have representatives on campus to address any of your transfer questions and needs. The table will be set up from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the East Peoria Campus on November 15.

S.G.A. is hosting a popular opinion poll on November 16. Your opinion matters! Take a moment to complete their survey and tell what entertainment acts you’d love to see on campus. Plus, enjoy a slice of pie on us as a token of our appreciation! This event will be held on the East Peoria Campus in the Academic Building at the Student Lounge.

Learn about ICC career resources and what you can do with different degree pathways through Career Exploration! This event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on November 15 on the East Peoria Campus in the Student Lounge.

Explore careers in Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management on November 15 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Students can tour their state-of-the-art kitchen and classrooms in Dogwood Hall and hear from faculty and their students. Check-in starts at 3:30 p.m.! You can register by clicking here.

Illinois State University will have representatives on campus to address any of your transfer questions and needs. The table will be set up on November 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the East Peoria Campus in the Career Center.

ESL is hosting a Workshop: “Conversation Starters” on November 16 from 12:30 to 1:30, take all your prior learning and put it to use as you learn how to start a conversation. This will be located on the Peoria Campus in the Student Center, Room S220.

The Transgender Day of Remembrance will take place on the East Peoria Campus, Academic Building 212 C/D on November 16 at 6:00 p.m. Come together to celebrate and affirm the value of transgender life and people, and to mourn those we have lost this year. 

Festive family gatherings, office parties, classic holiday movies, and Mariah Carey’s entire catalog will all get roasted like chestnuts on an open fire in this fast-paced, interactive comedy revue stuffed with seasonal songs, sketches, and of course, a generous helping of improv comedy. Dash through the snow to The Second City’s What the Elf?! Tickets can be bought here. This event will be hosted in the Performing Arts Center on November 25 at 7:30 p.m.

The Philharmonic Chorale invites you to their enchanting winter concert on November 26 at 2:30 p.m. Join them for a heartwarming performance of seasonal songs and carols led by the talented Amy Smith and accompanied by Carol Spayer. Tickets can be bought here. The event will be hosted on the East Peoria Campus in the Performing Arts Center.
