NOTICE

Friday, Feb. 16-March 8: Sexual Misconduct Campus Climate Survey:

Students were supposed to have been sent an email about an optional anonymous survey regarding their relationships, sexual experiences, experiences with dating violence, and perceptions about safety at ICC during the last 12 months. This will help state officials be more aware of the issues institutions need to address and will help craft the tools needed to address them.

If you did not receive an email or have questions, please contact our Title IX department at Title9@icc.edu or 309-694-8460.

Comedy magician and hypnotist David Anthony recently mesmerized campus with a 45-minute show in the cafeteria.

“He did some magic tricks like guess what cards people had in a crowd. He took a lot of volunteers. And at the end, asked people to come up and sit in a chair. He then preceded to ✨HYPNOTIZE✨ us,” student Grace Parker said over a text interview.

Parker says Anthony made those who were hypnotized to “at times to make us feel things like on a roller coaster, or making animal noises, or making up forget the number six and our names!”

Student Charlie Ashenbramer got hypnotized into instantly falling asleep at the snap of Anthony’s fingers and experiencing partial amnesia. “Being hypnotized was really weird, yet a really relaxing experience. Sadly, I don’t remember anything,” says Ashenbramer.

Kevin Hines will gave a presentation today on the ICC campus titled “#BeHereTomorrow: A Story of Hope, Healing, and Recovery”.

In 2000, Hines tried to end his life by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge – and lived. He is one of only 39 people who are known to have survived that fall. Today he is a storyteller, best-selling author, global public speaker, and award-winning documentary filmmaker.

Hines sharing his story, as well as other survivors doing the same, helped inspire the construction of the recent “suicide deterrent nets” on the Golden Gate Bridge. They were completed last month after five years of construction.

Thursday, Feb. 29: The Color Purple Celebration and Presentation:

This Thursday is Wear Purple Day at ICC!

There will also be a presentation about the classic story The Color Purple discussing the impact the novels, films, and musicals have had on American culture hosted by Arnitria Shaw, the ICC Vice President of Workforce and Diversity, and Dr. Lonetta Oliver, the Dean of Humanities.

It has since been adapted into musicals and two musical films. The 1982 film version is a classic and garnered 11 Academy Awards nominations

The newest film version of it was released just last year!
