Illinois Central Review is looking for creative art submissions from students for its second issue, set to release in August 2022. Illinois Central Review is a new online literary magazine that showcases Illinois Central College (ICC) student art pieces, including visual art, fiction, creative nonfiction and poetry.

The site is led by English Professor Melissa Grunow, who began accepting its first submissions in the fall semester of 2021. The final pieces picked for publication appeared in the site’s first issue in January. In addition to its online publications, Illinois Central Review will be collaborating with ICC’s annual Student Life Writing Contest in the future, allowing winners to have their works published in the August issue.

Since Illinois Central Review is a relatively new initiative for ICC, Professor Grunow is encouraging students to submit their works for the site for the chance to be published. While not all submissions will be accepted, students will still be able to revise their submissions and try again in the future. Students are allowed to submit multiple entries in different categories.

“It’s an absolute joy. I am amazed at the breadth of creativity among ICC’s students, and it thrills me to be able to support them with this kind of opportunity,” Grunow said.

Grunow encourages students interested in writing to take one of three Creative Writing classes in the fall semester, including Nonfiction Prose, Poetry, and Narrative Fiction. Students can submit their creative pieces for Illinois Central Review here until May 1.
