Recent Events

On October 18, 2023 at 7:00 p.m., three Illinois Central College students shared original short stories from their English narrative fiction class with an audience of approximately 25 faculty and students. Professor Melissa Grunow offered all students in attendance extra credit for attending and participating in the panel discussion following the readings. The students selcted were Logan Lewis, Isaiah Alexander, and Jennifer Scott-Dewar. The sharing was part of the Between the Lines project started 30 years ago. According to Professor and Coordinator Andrea Walton, Between the Lines is a “series designed to inspire literacy and creative scholarship”. The topics included female incarceration and suicide, pop humorous fiction, and animal killing. There are two Between the Lines presentations yearly.

Campus Housing hosted Halloween Hangout on Oct. 30. This event gave students an opportunity to enjoy food, finish up costumes, and enjoy the thrills of the scary season with their friends in a more relaxed environment.

Future Events

SGA (Student Government Association) is hosting a costume contest that is being held in the Student Lounge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

Local artist Peter Ahart will give an artist talk in the Performing Arts Center Lobby from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25. His paintings will be on display from September 30 until November 10.

Join Director Larry Harms, ICC students, and community members for a rockin’ and boppin’ night of music from a variety of jazz styles. Admissions are free, and the performance will be held in the lecture recital hall on the East Peoria campus on November 2 at 7:30 p.m. The ICC Hard Bop Jazz Band is always a performance not to be missed!

Professor Andrea Walton presents a dialogue about the ways that Octavia Butler explores racial trauma through time-travel narratives in the novel “Kindred”. Presented by Between the Lines in collaboration with One Book One College.

Join Sheriff Watkins as he talks through the importance of situational awareness as it applies to home, public places, suspicious activity, the behaviors of those around us, and making the safest decisions when facing a threat or issue of concern. In a world full of distractions, being situationally aware and attuned to our environment is not always at the forefront of our minds. You can join Sheriff Watkins in Hickory Hall, room 131, November 7, 6 to 8 p.m.

ICC Vocal Jazz Fall Performance. You don’t want to miss this evening of exciting jazz, classic pop and acapella, even some gospel. Admission is free and open to the public. Bring your friends! 7:30 p.m., Thursday, November 9 Lecture Recital Hall 127F, on the East Peoria Campus.

East Peoria and Peoria Campuses are hosting Diwali celebrations including samosas and other treats, as well as Mehndi (henna) art, and cultural clothing to try on. 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.m Monday, November 13, 3rd Floor Student Lounge, East Peoria Campus Student Center, Peoria Campus. Diwali is a Hindu festival of lights and is one of the biggest festivals observed in India and other Asian countries by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and Buddhists. It hails the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance, and is often commemorated with sweets, gifts, firecrackers, and visiting friends.

ICC Guitar Faculty Michael W. Hull directs members of ICC and the community in a unique concert experience of classical guitar ensemble music. Admission is free and open to all. The event will be hosted at 7:30 p.m., Monday, November 13, Lecture Recital Hal,l 127F, East Peoria Campus

Please join us in supporting the campus-wide ICC Food Pantry Food Drive, benefiting the neediest of our students. The Drive runs from November 13 through November 17, and items will be collected on the East Peoria Campus and on the Peoria Campus. In addition to individual donations, Student Life is hosting a friendly department competition to see which departments can collect the most food throughout the week. Donations receive one point per item. The department with the most points will win a free catered breakfast or lunch. To participate in the department competition, please email studentlife@icc.edu by noon on Friday, November 10.
