By David Prim

April 16th, 2019 Paris, France – Now considered a national emergency by French President Macron, a fire at the Notre Dame Cathedral has burned the 850-year-old structure, causing significant damage. The fire started just minutes after it had closed. The Cathedral was under renovations and many priceless artifacts were previously removed just a week prior to the fire. 16 copper statues had also been previously removed. The Cathedral needed over 100 million in renovations, and needed 6.8 million for immediate repairs that were to begin according to the Paris mayor.
Notre Dame spokesperson Andre Finot also said that “everything is burning. Nothing will remain from the frame.”

Though no explanation to the exact origins of the fire have been discovered yet, an investigation into the event is taking place.

A related story to the Cathedral fire, 1 of 3 Muslim women was recently sentenced to 8 years in prison by a French court for a previous plot to bomb the building.

Remains of Saints were in the Cathedral at the time of the fire, yet no word on their condition currently, or whether they were even inside during the fire.

Although officials immediately claimed arson was not a factor, there was a fire suppression system in the structure. And the fire is being said to have started on the outside.

Easter services will still take place outside the Cathedral.
