Friday, September 9, the curtain went up for Nitsch Theatre Arts’ (NTA) the first night of The Addams Family hosted at the ICC Performing Arts Center as part of the NTA Stage Teens Program, which offers musical theater performance opportunities for students in their communities.

The NTA Stage Teens put on a musical comedy chronicling the lives of the iconic, creepy and cooky family as they plan for one normal night with the company of a normal family. Stage Teens is one of the many programs within Nitsch Theater Arts that educates and encourages teenagers and young adults to experience the performing arts.

Director and Founder of NTA, Kelleen Nitsch, assembled a cast and crew of young actors from the Stage Teens program and offered three nights for them to embody the characters on stage.

There’s a first time for everything and this night was Spencer Armistead’s,16,  first role on the stage. Joining as Lucas for The Addams Family.

“I was scared for the first time on stage, but it was really fun putting it all together”

Armistead said.

McKinley Zobrist, 17, has been involved with Nitsch Theater, with this being her 52 performance. Zobrist played upbeat Alice, clad in yellow and floral to contrast the doom and gloom of the Addams family.

“This role was unlike any I’ve ever played before, I was able to put myself out there and tap into the more crazy side of me.”

Zobrist said.

From overture to curtain call, the audience was cheering and laughing at the energetic dance numbers and witty one-liners from the mysterious and spooky characters before them.

You can catch Nitsch Theater Arts this November for their upcoming production of Elf Jr.
