Illinois Central College (ICC) Men’s Soccer team got their third consecutive victory, one away and two at home, over Jefferson College and upset number eight in the country. After a tough season beginning with two losses, the men’s team continues to improve every game. They have a 2-0 winning streak and an overall of five victories and three losses. Even though this game wasn’t a region game, it was important for the ranking.

ICC started with Lucas Fontana, a sophomore from Peoria, as the goalie. Luca Saewe, a sophomore recruit from Germany, Jackson Galloway, a sophomore recruit from Florida and Jama Ahmed, a freshman recruit from England, in the back.  Cristian Bregu, a sophomore recruit from Italy, Gian Luca Fink, a sophomore from Austria, Carlos Lobo, a freshman recruit from Spain, Zac Le Stavri, a freshman recruit from England and Linus Saewe, a sophomore recruit from Germany, in the middle. Jesus Perez, a freshman recruit from Spain, and Antoni Llull, a sophomore recruit from Spain, on the top.

From the beginning, ICC had the ball and tried to score. Mahamat Ahmat scored the first goal after a crossbar by Perez, and ICC dominated the game. A few minutes later, the opposing team tried to score, but goalie Fontana had a nice dive. At halftime, the result was 1-0.

In the second half, ICC kept trying, and after a perfect cross by Lobo, central back Galloway scored a beautiful bicycle kick and put the 2-0 on the scoreboard. Jefferson College scored their first game goal, making the match even more interesting. Llull had a great 1 vs 1 opportunity in front of the goalie, and he scored, putting the Cougars up 3-1 ending in a victory for the Cougars.

The goals were scored by Ahmat, Sophomore (#27) from Africa, Galloway, Sophomore (#12) from Florida and Llull, Sophomore (#14) from Spain.

ICC Men’s Soccer team, with a winning streak of 3 and a record of 5-3, is facing Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday, September 14, at home again to try to enlarge their winning streak.
