Tuesday, August 30, Illinois Central College (ICC) played against the Hawks of Heartland Community College. Anticipation was building as neither team scored in the first half. Approaching half-time with the score at a standstill of 0-0, goalkeeper for the Cougars, Lucas Fontana (#1), a sophomore from Peoria, kept the team motivated to remain in control the second half of the game.

“Both teams have had some pretty good chances”

said Fontana.

The Hawks scored the first goal in the second half. The Cougars rallied and returned, with Zac Le Stavri (#23), a freshman international recruit from England, scoring an impressive first goal for the team.

Nearing the completion of the second half, the game was tied. Unfortunately for the Cougars, the Hawks swooped down and stole the win. The match would finish with the Hawks over the Cougars 2-1. Saturday, September 3, the Cougars take their next match on the road to Ferguson, MO., to face off against the Archers of St. Louis Community College.
