With new freshmen coming next semester it’s good to give an insight into what clubs are available to students. Natasha Boord sat down with the president of UNITE, Veronica Lee, to discuss their goals for this club and who is exactly welcome. Spoiler alert everyone is welcome.

What are the duties as President?

It’s to plan the events, coordinate student life, to recruit other students, outlines for meetings, and manage our funds.

What is UNITE’s purpose?

Its to have an understanding of individuality through education. That everyone is unique and deserves acceptance.

What are the goals for UNITE?

It’s education that is the main goal to inform. Also, the goal is to help the community. One of the ways we plan on doing that is having a feminine product line drive. It’s still in the beginning stages, but we are planning with the food bank either at ICC or Eureka college. Of course, our main goal is enrolling others in the club.

How is the forum decided?

So we like to plan a forum every semester to help with educating others. This semester it was sexual assault and healthy relationships. Its to see both sides of the coin and get a clear understanding of what is a healthy relationship. I decided this year to make a survey and sent it to the members to decide.

Why are they important?

It’s important to understand common misconceptions so we can educate and help students understand these situations. It’s important for students to be safe and educated. So UNITE has partnered with Planned Parenthood to give condoms.

So Unite meets at 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm the 1st and 3rd week of every month. Their next forum is on January 19th from 11 am to 1 pm. UNITE is open to all and even allies are welcome.
