Jazz It Up!

By Molly Deadmond, 4/27/19

Last Tuesday ICC’s Jazz Band hosted an evening of music in Recital Hall 127F on the East Peoria Campus; two hours of hard bop jazz featuring a rhythm section comprised of keyboards, guitar, bass, and drums and featuring some of ICC’s finest saxophonists, trumpeters, and trombonists. It was a wonderful way to unwind during a hectic week towards the end of the semester.

Many members of the band stepped up to perform solos including saxophonist Morgan Turner, trombonist Charlie Vetter, and Mel Ferguson on keyboard. Under the direction of Larry Harms, the jazz troupe played a total of twelve songs, including “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” by Stevie Wonder, and, in this reporter’s opinion, each member gave a wonderful performance, full of talent and enthusiasm.

If you’re looking for a great way to unwind or a fun way of supporting your fellow students, their next performance is a big one and takes place this Sunday, April 28th. ICC’s Jazz Band will be headlining at the Trailside Event Center in Peoria Heights.

Performances begin @ 6PM with the Metamora Township High School Jazz Ensemble, followed by ICC’s Jazz Band @ 7:15PM.

To come out and show your support, visit 4416 N. Prospect in the Heights! Students get in for free, $6 for members of the Central Illinois Jazz Society, and $10 non-members with dinner and bar options available.

For questions and inquiries, reach out to the Trailside Event Center at 309-740-7171 or Trailside Event Center Email.

No matter if you’re a new listener or a lifetime bebopper, it’s a great way to jazz up your weekend.
