By Quest Dobbelaire, 11/8/19

Next week will be quite a spectacle.

International Education Week (IEW) is quickly approaching and ICC staff will be celebrating by host a myriad of events in collaboration with its students and local businesses.

The IEW was formed as a promotional experience between both the U.S. Department of State and the Department of Education in an effort to highlight the value of international exchange. According to the IEW Board, “International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide.”

Traditionally held the week of November 18th-22nd, ICC will commemorate the effort by holding several IEW seminars and events throughout the week. The kick-off event and panel will be held on Monday the 18th from 9:30-11:30 AM in the East Peoria Campus Student Center. This event is centered around global activism.

From 5-7 PM on Tuesday, November 19, there will be a film screening of “Badass Beauty Queen” and Q&A with Anastasia Lin at the Arbor Auditorium on the Peoria Campus. Anastasia Lin was the Canadian Miss World in 2015 but was denied entry into China to compete in. In addition to her own experiences, she will provide insight into other social injustices present in China.

And on Wednesday, November 20, from 11-1 PM the East Peoria Tranquility Room will host the OxFam Hunger Banquet. This volunteer-led, interactive event brings statistics about poverty to life in hopes of increasing our power to respond to global crises, highlighting issues of injustice, and bringing attention to laws that are keeping people trapped in poverty.

All seminars and events are free to attend. For more information about the upcoming weekly festivities, visit icc.edu.
