ICC’s Dominant Second Half Helps Cougars Cruise to 11th Straight

ICC women’s basketball helped themselves to their eleventh straight win as they prepare for the Region 24 quarterfinals. The Cougars last loss was on January 15th against now third ranked Lake Land.
ICC women’s basketball were struggling a bit in the first half as they were leading only by seven at half. An electric second half took all the struggles in the past. The Cougars won the game by the score of 87-56.
“The biggest difference was the energy and effort on the defensive end in the 2nd half where we completely took them out of what they wanted to run,” ICC’s head coach Karrie Redeker responded.
Some tough defense helped the Cougars keep Lewis & Clark’s scoring down. “The last time we played them they had made 10 three-pointers and all three of their starting guards hit double figures. Our goal this second time around was only let one of them reach double figures and try to shut the other two down,” coach Rekey responded.
Most of the electricity came in the third quarter which ended with a half court three from Ariana Washington. The Cougars lead scorer was Summer Stoewer with 21 points.
ICC has moved up to 9th on the NJCAA Division II rankings as of February 24th. Thanks to the win against Lincoln Land, ICC pushed Lincoln Land from 3rd to 5th on the rankings.
The Cougars last regular season game is on Saturday the 29th in Quincy, Illinois against John Wood. The Cougars then play in the Region 24 tournament that takes place this year at the CougarPlex. They’ll be vying for a chance to move on to Nationals in Michigan.
