October 19th, 2018 – East Peoria, IL – Professors and students alike gave their time and blood to the Red Cross Blood Drive on Tues., Oct. 2nd and Wed. the 3rd in the Student Lounge at ICC of East Peoria.

Tesha Moore of the Red Cross explained how important donating blood is for the community. She educated us on the purposes of the different components of blood. She explained that red blood cells are for transfusions, plasma is for burn victims and bleeding disorders, and platelets are to increase clotting.

Some of the students gave because they wanted to give, but some had personal reasons for why donating blood is so important to them, such as James, a Political Science Major. He stated that his mother had blood issues and couldn’t donate. He felt that it’s his responsibility to give. Parker, a Communication Major, states that her grandmother had health issues and needed blood, plus she worked at the Red Cross. She said this is one of the reasons why she volunteered for this event.
