ICC student brings music to the community

One Illinois Central College student brought his talents to the Peoria community this week, entertaining fellow ICC students and the public alike. Henry Voss performed at the local bar Red Barn on Wednesday as part of a special series of performances called Songs and Stories.

Voss, an 18-year-old ICC German language major, has been performing and doing gigs for seven years. Songs and Stories has been running for three years now with the host alternating between local artists Nick Lee and Josh Pitcher, who also performed for the audience.

The local artists that performed (left to right) included Henry Voss, Brett Conlin, and Josh Pitcher.

Voss said the event held special significance for him.

“As a queer performer, community is very special to me, so to see all the lovely faces in the crowd who showed up to support us three and the Peoria music scene was such a treat,” he said. “I hope it’s something the ICC community can continue sharing for a long time.”

Voss performed five original songs: “Words From Me to Your Jacket”, “Hannah Rose”, “Clover (reprised)”, “Last Rites”, and “So It Goes”.

Voss also has an all-original album out on Bandcamp and SoundCloud called “The Winding Path”, featuring even more of his opera-folk-style music. The songs “Words From Me to Your Jacket” and “Hannah Rose” are included on this album.
