ICC International Fair
By David Prim
March 17th, 2019 – The 15th annual ICC International Fair was held at the Peoria Campus Student Center, and many cultures came together as one community with booths representing several different countries from around the world. Students with friends and family members were gathered at this annual worldwide exhibition of culture.
This event was by the Intercultural Diversity Committee and the Diversity Department, in conjunction with the ICC Culinary Arts Program.
One of many international representatives at the event was German Instructor, Christine Strelecky.
Christine has been @ ICC for around 24 years sharing her knowledge and personality that are an asset to the college’s international community. Not to mention the Brats and sauerkraut for a personal favorite mine, the live German music performed, and a chance to try playing the music yourself.
Not only could you learn bits of different languages, you could even try some really great tea from China. The clothing from all the countries was colorful and beautifully displayed in person. The food could be smelled as soon as you entered the Student Center as every country represented had some kind of food. From cake baked as by the Netherlands to the tasty donuts from Uganda, there was much to experience and explore.
An incredible demonstration of karate by Professor Chinakas topped off the action. There was a mini class for guests and demonstrations. The main karate demonstration was a flying kick over myself and one other person laying on the floor, and then breaking a piece of wood that two other volunteers held while in the air.
