Illinois Central College (ICC) hosted its 12th annual Sophomore Graphic Design and Multimedia Portfolio Review event on April 27. During this event, students in these programs have the opportunity to show off their portfolios with work from their time at ICC. These portfolios can be shared with friends, family, transfer schools and the professional design community. Many students attended the event Wednesday evening, each having challenging experiences and different plans for their lives after ICC.

One student, Rachel Grebe, displayed work from both the Graphic Design and Multimedia programs to show off. She said that taking both classes was challenging for her, but being surrounded by others who shared her passions was worth it.

“Both of them were something that I was very passionate about,” she said.

Grebe plans to find a job in either field after leaving ICC, though she does hope to come back to school at some point.

Cameron Delinski, a Graphic Design student, found some difficulty with projects such as designing a logo, which required working with actual clients. After overcoming this hurdle, Delinski is proud to have accomplished this and the other works in his portfolio.

“My favorite part is having a full, finished portfolio,” he said.

Delinski is continuing his degree in Graphic Design at Illinois State University in the fall and is also considering pursuing his other interests such as business or video game design.

Student Blake Briggs said he worried that procrastination would keep him from getting his work done, but he was able to finish everything on time and has a portfolio he’s proud of. His favorite part of the process was working with other students and being able to give each other feedback in class.

“It’s great to be able to work with other people and have a good outcome,” he said.

Briggs will be going straight to work after he leaves ICC, but he is open to returning to school to earn his bachelor’s degree in the future.

The Sophomore Graphic Design and Multimedia Portfolio Review host over 300 visitors each year. The event is typically held in room AIT245 in the Agricultural and Industrial Technologies Building.
