“You have to make light of serious situations for your own mental health”
Amber Carroll
Amber shares that it is essential during stressful situations in the ER to address the situation at hand and put your feelings aside. It is best to process your personal feelings at a later time with the protocols put into place to protect the well-being of first responders. Amber also tells us the importance of learning to leave work at work and not take it home with you, as that can be extremely dangerous to your mental health.
She suggests that anyone experiencing emotional stress due to isolation go outside to get some sunshine, go for a walk, or hike, get some time alone or read a good book. Try to focus on the things that make you happy and find hope even in the dark moments.
