Stepping into the life of a college student comes with so much excitement and opportunities to explore our interests and decide a direction to take in life. College life also comes with a whole new level of responsibility. This responsibility requires adjusting to how we are used to doing things, including budgeting our finances and time. We have to allow time for studying, homework, self-care, family time, and even work. We all need a little help during times of adjustment. Illinois Central College has the resources to assist in that time of transition.

A student should never have to choose between getting a higher education and having food to eat. ICC offers a food pantry Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 1 pm. If you are ever running low on food or just need a few things to get by until payday, utilize this campus resource. They offer a variety of foods and even a few health and beauty items. If these hours of operation are outside of your available time frame, feel free to reach out to the Dean of Students office located at L221, and they will be happy to assist in meeting your needs.

In a time of transition, it can be difficult to find focus in our studies. You don’t have to wait until you fall behind to prepare for success this semester. ICC offers Academic Support which consists of free assistance and tutoring in all subjects except writing. Visit them for more information on the Library Balcony in the Academic Building.

Everyone deals with change in their unique way, and some of us have more difficulty adjusting to the new environment and responsibilities. ICC shows its care for your overall mental well-being by offering free counseling services to its students. These services range from advising on courses to providing support and coping strategies. Do not hesitate to seek more insight on these services at Room CC200, located near the help desk in the Academic Building.

Let ICC help you to help yourself succeed as you grow and learn. Sir Francis Bacon said, “Knowledge itself is power,” even if you do not find yourself in need of these services, share them with a peer who may be struggling.
