Campus Police Report: Fall 2019

Incidents by Type

Theft

August 12th

An unattended cellphone was stolen from a room in Arbor Hall on the Peoria Campus. It was not recovered.

September 2nd

A resident of Campus Housing reported clothes missing and possibly stolen from a dryer in the laundry room. Campus Police reviewed video surveillance videos and later located two people for interviews. The clothes had been taken by mistake. They were recovered and returned to the owner.

October 2nd

Items including cash, a credit card, and an iPhone were stolen from an unattended gym bag at the CougarPlex.

October 11th

An unattended laptop was stolen from where it was left in a hallway on the East Peoria Campus.

October 24th

A student reported that his license plates were stolen off his car while it was parked in a lot on the East Peoria Campus.

November 26th

A student reported that the license plates were stolen off his car while it was parked in a lot on the East Peoria Campus.

Property Damage/Vandalism

August 28th

Campus Police met with an employee of Campus Housing on a complaint of holes punched in a door and wall of an apartment. Through investigation, officers identified and located the suspect, who was charged with damage to property.

September 9th

Two residents of Campus Housing had their bedrooms broken into and ransacked while were away. It did not appear anything was missing.

September 20th

Damage was discovered to the passenger side rear bumper cover of a college-owned vehicle. It is unknown how the damage occurred.

September 25th

An employee driving a college-owned vehicle backed into a stationary object in a parking lot of the East Peoria Campus. The vehicle sustained damage to the passenger side tail light and rear window pillar. There were no injuries.

October 21st

Graffiti was discovered in a restroom stall and on a vehicle at Dirksen Hall. The graffiti was removed.

October 29th

A vehicle parked in a lot on the East Peoria Campus caught on fire, possibly from mechanical issues. The destroyed vehicle was towed away.

October 31st

A college vehicle driven by an employee struck a pole, causing damage to the car. There were no injuries.

November 1st

An employee backed an ICC vehicle into a pole while off-campus. The damage was minor.

November 21st

ICC officers responded to a large water leak in the library of the Peoria Campus. Officers were able to shut off the leak, which caused extensive damage to the area. Facilities Services employees responded to assess the damage.

November 27th

A tree limb fell on a college vehicle parked on the East Peoria Campus during a storm. The vehicle was not occupied and there were no injuries.

Illegal Substance Possession/Use

August 25th

Officers at Campus Housing observed a non-student in possession of alcohol. The alcohol was confiscated and the uncooperative subject was banned from the property.

September 10th

During an apartment safety check at Campus Housing, an employee observed a bottle of vodka, possession of which is against college regulations. The alcohol was confiscated and the resident was issued a Regulation Violation ticket for possession.

October 20th

A Campus Police officer observed a non-student at Campus Housing carrying an alcoholic beverage. The liquor was confiscated and the subject was written a regulation violation ticket for possession of alcohol.

October 30th

An employee of Campus Housing smelled an odor of possible burnt cannabis in an apartment. An investigation determined that a resident was in possession of one gram of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. They were confiscated and the resident was issued a regulation violation ticket for possession.

November 1st

An ICC officer observed a student in possession of an alcoholic beverage on the East Peoria Campus. The student was issued a regulation violation ticket for possession of alcohol.

November 21st

Campus Housing management observed drug paraphernalia inside an apartment. It was confiscated and the resident was issued a regulation violation ticket for possession drug paraphernalia.

November 22nd

Campus Housing management observed containers of alcoholic beverages inside of an apartment. The alcohol was confiscated and the resident was issued a regulation violation ticket for possession of alcohol.

Disturbing the Peace, etc…

August 19th

Campus Police were dispatched to the main entrance of the East Peoria Campus on a complaint of a subject asking students for money. Officers located the subject (who is not a student) and advised him that panhandling was not allowed at ICC. He then left the property.

August 26th

Campus Police observed a physical altercation between a male and a female on surveillance cameras in a parking lot of the Peoria Campus. Officers were able to locate the female, but the male had left campus. The female did not have any visible injuries. She was uncooperative and stated she was not willing to press charges and would not identify the suspect, whom she said was not an ICC student. She was given a packet of information regarding domestic or dating violence victim resources.

September 23rd

Campus Police received an anonymous complaint (from a user of the ICC Guardian phone app) stating there was possibly a fight at Campus Housing. Officers responded and heard people arguing inside an apartment. Officers investigated and learned it was a resident and a friend in a verbal dispute. The non-resident was escorted to their vehicle and left the property.

October 4th

A possible counterfeit $20.00 bill was discovered in the cash at the college accounting office. The bill was confiscated, to be turned over to the U.S. Secret Service.

November 11th

A resident of Campus Housing reported another resident was banging on doors and disturbing people. The student was identified and referred to Campus Housing management for follow up.

Campus Safety Tip: MyAlert and Rave Guardian Cellphone Notifications

To receive prompt notification of weather-related or other school closures, update your “MyAlert” user account with your current phone/text numbers and email accounts.

Students can find their MyAlert account under the “MyAlert” tab in eServices. Employees can update their MyAlert account in the ICC intranet in the “Miscellaneous” section.

To enhance personal safety on campus, the ICC Police Department offers ICC Guardian, a free safety app for cell phones. Guardian connects your call directly to the ICC Campus Police Department. You can also submit crime tips or other info to Campus Police via text. Calls and texts to police can be made anonymously and photos can be attached to a text.

To download the ICC Guardian app, search “Rave Guardian” in the app store on your mobile device. The app is activated with just your cell phone number and ICC email address. Download it today to be prepared for unexpected emergencies!
