Cafeteria “Gone” Choir Show

EAST PEORIA — At around noon on Wednesday, September 25th, those eating lunch in the cafeteria at ICC East got an unexpected surprise.

Members of Julie Clemens’ choir class planned a spontaneous performance to occur in the cafeteria among their fellow classmates. Sitting and appearing to be eating lunch themselves, the choir members got up in succession, starting with few and ending with more than thirty students. Some played acoustic guitars, some used hand percussion, and one even kept the beat on a guard railing and empty bucket while they all sang.

The students sang “Gone, Gone, Gone” by Phillip Phillips, a song frequently played on the radio today. Audience feedback was mostly positive, with many clapping along and singing the words.

“It sure caught a lot of attention,” says Alejandro Juvera, a sophomore at ICC and one of the participants, “and we only had a few days to practice. It was an interesting experience.”

As the song ended, the choir members made their way to their seats while singing, sitting down as soon as the last chord was struck. The performance was as quick as it was unexpected, and servedas a fun breather in the middle of the students’ daily routine.
