Board of Trustees Approves First Tuition Increase in Four Years

Last Thursday, the Board of Trustees decided ICC’s tuition will increase by five dollars a credit hour next academic year.

Leon Belmont, the student trustee, says it was between the tuition increase and potential budget cuts that might impact student services.

“This wasn’t an easy decision by the board, but in order to provide the best services for our students and avoid a significant tuition increase in the future, it was necessary. We hadn’t increased tuition in nearly four years, as opposed to the nearly yearly increases of similar schools,” Belmont says.

The tuition will be increasing from $155 dollars a credit hour to $160 dollars a credit hour. This is a 1.03% increase.

A seven-dollar increase was also briefly discussed. However, Belmont says “We don’t want to increase tuition by more than is necessary since that could cause unnecessary stress on students”.

This may not be the last budget increase in the near future. “The board will be revisiting next year to decide on additional increases as necessary,” Belmont says.
