An athletic director’s job is to support and maintain the sports at a program. They also ensure that each sport has the necessary equipment and transportation needed for each game. An athletic director’s job is to communicate each program’s vision to everyone involved.

Sue Sinclair was the athletic director at ICC for 30 years before retiring on June 30th of 2019. ICC needed a new AD to maintain the athletic department she had built up. In comes Rob Buss, who was a former college athlete at Rockford University and a former Men’s basketball coach at Kishwaukee College in Malta, IL.

Rob Buss was born in Belleville, IL, and grew up there until his seventh-grade year when he moved to Rockford. Buss played basketball at Rockford University with no clear intentions ahead other than playing basketball.

“I was like probably most college students that are playing sports. I knew that going to school was part of the deal. I didn’t really have a strong clue of what I wanted to get into… At one time I was a triple minor.” He also stated that he knew that he wanted to stay involved in sports but didn’t know where to go from college.”

“As I got between my sophomore and junior year of college, I was trying to figure out what fits me the best. That sports management and Sports Administration side kinda gave me the best of both worlds.” After college, Rob ended up at Kishwaukee College where he would coach Men’s basketball for 15 years, and Men’s golf for 5 years as well. He also ran the wellness center, was the academic-athletic coordinator, and was a Region 4 representative for Division II Basketball. Buss applied for the position a little over a year ago and was officially hired in January of 2021 to become ICC’s newest Athletic Director.
