East Peoria, Ill. – A new season got underway at Lorene Ramsey Gymnasium for the 16th-rated ICC Volleyball team on Wednesday night.

Their first opponent was quite a tall task in the ninth-ranked Iowa Central Tritons.

In the first set, the difference in ranking showed to a degree, as ICC just couldn’t seem to get a grasp on any momentum, and Iowa Central would run away with the opening set, 25-15.

The second set was a much better story for the Cougars, but Iowa Central still managed to keep things close. Back and forth it went, something that almost seemed to be a theme in portions of the match, but ICC would eventually tie up the match by taking the second set, 25-20.

Despite getting the 25 points needed to take the second set, ICC would tally a combined 22 points for the remainder of the match. A 13-point differential at the end of the third set seemed to be a rough patch in terms of the match as a whole.

Yet the scoring went down more in the final set. Iowa Central had seized control already, and seemed to be seizing it more, as they walked away with a 25-10 win in the final set, to take the match by a score of three sets to one.

After heading to Sugar Grove, Illinois for a tournament at Waubonsee College this weekend, the Cougars will return to Ramsey Gym on August 28th for a scrimmage with NCAA D-III Illinois Wesleyan. The Titans are picked to win their conference, and went (23-8) a season ago, before bowing out in the NCAA Regional round.
