Student Profile of DJ Davis
By Dane Poe, August 27, 2019
DJ Davis is a student-athlete that goes to Illinois Central College. DJ is from Minneapolis, Minnesota. He liked it in Minnesota when it wasn’t snowing. He used to have to walk to the bus stop in negative degree weather. DJ has loved sports since he was five years old. He has played basketball all his life. DJ was losing confidence, though, in basketball throughout his senior year of high school.
He regained that confidence when he came to ICC. It was ICC’s basketball Coach Wysinger that helped DJ find his love for the game. If DJ didn’t come down to Illinois Central College, he would’ve probably gone to community college in Minnesota. DJ is a journalism major at ICC.
After ICC, DJ says that he would love to go to Bradley to play basketball and to finish his degree. After college, he wants to play basketball professionally and then hopefully work at ESPN. DJ says that he wants to write mainly about sports but is open to other things. DJ picked journalism as his major because of the wide variety that journalism presents.
Outside sports, DJ enjoys to read as well as being outdoors and fishing, DJ is also very family-oriented. Although he has family in Minnesota, DJ’s father and grandfather live in Chicago. DJ also sort of has a family here, thanks to some of his father’s friends who live in Peoria and look out for him. DJ’s biggest role model is his brother.
His biggest celebrity role model is Seattle Seahawks starting quarterback Russell Wilson. DJ loves the way that Wilson approaches life. DJ says that he would travel to France if he could because his parents also speak French, which DJ knows a little as well.
DJ also loves music, he says that he always listens to music no matter where he goes. DJ states that he likes old school music like 90’s R&B but also listens to a lot of rap music. His favorite rappers are 50 Cent, DaBaby, and Ludacris. His all-time favorite rapper though is The Notorious B.I.G.
DJ always has a piece of Minnesota on him thanks to his tattoo on his right arm. “It’s a tattoo of what was the Minnesota Twins’ old logo, inside the M is a skyline of downtown Minneapolis. Underneath the M, it says 612 vertically because that’s the Minneapolis area code.”
