Student athletes receive academic honors
EAST PEORIA — A special ceremony was held during the halftime period of the February 18 men’s basketball game against Parkland. The ceremony provided the chance to recognize the hard work and dedication of those student-athletes at Illinois Central College who strive for excellence in the classroom as well as on the playing field.
The athletes were ranked in achievement by their GPA’s, and all athletes with a fall 2014 GPA of at least 3.25 were recognized. President’s List honoree Jena Redding credits ICC’s coaching staffs in achieving her success.
“We’re held accountable. There’s consequences if you don’t get your (required) study hours; the coaches here put education first,” she said. “It’s a lot of studying and time management just to make sure you’re on top of things.”
Of course, with team sports, it is not simply about the individual awards. ICC Athletics as a whole averaged a 3.04 GPA, which Vice President of Student Services Tracy Morris called “outstanding.”
In all, 52 athletes were celebrated. See their names and academic ranks below.
