Shutdown Over Temporarily
The Government is Re-opening After Over a Month’s Long Shutdown
By David Prim
January 25th, 2019 Finally, around 800,000 federal workers will be returning to work as a deal between democrats and the white house has just been reached today. There is money now for security across the southern border that will include illegal crossing routes between ports of entry along our southern border. For now, a national emergency order has been avoided which allowed negotiations to occur in the U.S. Senate and now cooperation from the U.S. Congress to end up with this temporary deal.
As thousands of migrants and other persons have fled to the U.S. for sanctuary, a humanitarian crisis has existed for decades and has worsened under failing immigration laws that have been neglected by leadership on both sides of the political aisle. Federal workers caught in between the spending feud by politicians will get to resume their jobs along with back pay. Fears will be eased for SNAP recipients receiving benefits, and Coast Guard members will finally get their paychecks again as well.
The President is setting February 15th as the ‘red-line’ for the temporary deal to ensure national security concerns are met or back to another shutdown. As history reflects with deadlines set by our government, there is no guarantee on just how long the government will remain open for business as usual, or layoff federal workers once again.
