Quick Hits: Arts Week Special Edition

Here are the times and dates for ICC’s Arts Week and upcoming art exhibitions, from April 14 to May 12:

Multiple Day Events:

  • Vision Board/Collage Art Craft – This will take place on April 14 to April 18, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in the East Peoria campus and Peoria campus libraries. Students will be able to make their own vision board and collage.
  • Special Invitational Exhibition – This will take place on April 14 to April 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Children’s Center, East Peoria campus. Artwork from the young artists from the ICC Children’s Center will be on display outside of Rooms 128 and 129.
  • Site-Specific Temporary Art – This will take place on April 14 to April 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Courtyard Sundial, East Peoria campus. Attendees will be able to draw on the Sundial using chalk to create temporary artwork.
  • Famous Artwork Portraits: Selfie Station – This will take place on April 14 to April 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Skywalk outside of the East Peoria campus library. Students will be able to take selfies of themselves in famous portraits like the “Mona Lisa” or “American Gothic.”
  • Free Portrait Drawings by Student Artists – This will take place on April 14 to April 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. On Monday and Wednesday, this will be at the Skywalk outside of the East Peoria campus library, while on Tuesday and Thursday, this will be at the Atrium outside of the East Peoria campus bookstore. Students will be able to have their portrait drawn by art students.
  • Theatre Costume Selfie Station – This will take place on April 15 and April 17, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., at the Skywalk outside of the East Peoria campus library. Attendees will be able to dress up with the Theatre students using the ICC costume vault.
  • Almost, Maine – This will take place on April 16 to April 19, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., in the Performing Arts Center, East Peoria campus. Attendees can purchase tickets at the PAC Box Office, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., or they can purchase tickets online here.
  • Faculty Art Exhibition – This will take place on April 16 to May 12, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in Room 336B, East Peoria campus. Attendees will be able to view the artwork of ICC’s faculty.
  • Juried Student Art Exhibition – This will take place from April 16 to May 12, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Performing Arts Center and Room 131D, East Peoria campus. Artwork from ICC students will be on display.

Monday, April 14:

  • John Tuccillo: Paper Casting and Mold Making Demonstration – This will occur from 10 a.m. to noon, in Room 131C, East Peoria campus. Professor Tuccillo will be showing attendees the techniques of mold making and casting objects with paper pulp.
  • Tony Jones and the Concert Band – This will occur from noon to 1:15 p.m., in Room 127A, East Peoria campus. Professor Jones and his Concert Band students will be performing for an open rehearsal.
  • Creative Writing Showcase – This will occur from 1:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., in the Student Lounge, East Peoria campus. Narrative Nonfiction students will show off their work, then a panel discussion and an audience Q&A session with Professor Melissa Grunow will follow.
  • Vocal Jazz – This will occur from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., in the East Peoria campus Courtyard. Attendees will be able to enjoy live jazz and pop songs from ICC’s Vocal Jazz.
  • Photograms: Camera-less Photography – This will occur from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., in Room 136A, East Peoria campus. Professor Chris Gauthiér will demonstrate photograms, the process of creating photographs without a camera. Attendees will be able to create their own photograms with the materials provided.

Tuesday, April 15:

  • SKODEN! Native American Rap, Hip-Hop, and EDM – This will occur from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., in the Lecture Recital Hall, Room 127F, East Peoria campus. Illinois State University professor Dr. Shannon Epplett, who is Ojibwe, will be discussing Indigenous hip-hop, rap, and EDM and how it relates to the indigenous experience.
  • Concert Choir – This will occur from noon to 1:15 p.m., in the East Peoria campus Courtyard. The Concert Choir will be having an open rehearsal.
  • Larry Harms and the Jazz Band – This will occur from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., in Room 127A, East Peoria campus. Attendees will be able to hear live jazz performances by ICC students, which will be directed by retired Professor Harms.
  • Papermaking Demo and Workshop – This will occur from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., in Room 131C, East Peoria campus. Attendees will be able to learn how to make paper from Skylar Johnson and Caroline Noffert. Attendees will be able to pick up their dried paper on Thursday.
  • The Heart of Illinois Chorus – This will occur from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., in the Performing Arts Center, East Peoria campus. The Heart of Illinois Chorus will be performing songs in an a cappella barbershop style.

Wednesday, April 16:

  • Stained Glass Demonstration – This will occur from 10 a.m. to noon, in Room 131C, East Peoria campus. Professor Jennifer Costa will be showing off the art of stained glass.
  • Double Dutch Aerobics – This will occur from noon to 1 p.m., in the East Peoria campus Courtyard. Attendees will be able to put their skills to the test with a Double Dutch Aerobics demonstration.
  • Obvara Raku Demonstration – This will occur from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., in the East Peoria campus Courtyard. Instructors Oliver Reed and Traci O’Dwyer will be showing off the process of 500-year-old alternative raku ceramics.
  • Student Short Film Festival – This will start at 3 p.m., in Room 123A, East Peoria campus. Attendees will be able to watch a variety of short films made by current, former, and prospective ICC students. The Awards Ceremony will precede the films.

Thursday, April 17:

  • Bradley Rose: The Art of Illuminated Manuscripts – This will occur from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., in the Lecture Recital Hall, Room 127F, East Peoria campus. Professor Rose will be discussing and demonstrating the medieval art of making illuminated manuscripts.
  • Megan Foster-Campbell: Women Artists of the Baroque Era – This will occur from noon to 12:50 p.m., in Room 134A, East Peoria campus. ICC Art Historian Dr. Foster-Campbell will be talking about the female artists of the Baroque period.
  • Judy Placko – This will occur from 1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., in Room 134A, East Peoria campus. Interiors expert, Instructor Placko, will be giving a lecture on pre-Columbian American interior design from before the 16th century.
  • Velvet Voices Treble Choir – This will occur from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., in the East Peoria campus Courtyard. The new Velvet Voice treble choir will be singing. Sopranos and altos are welcome to try singing with the choir.
  • Writing Horror with Heart: A Talk with Professor and Best-Selling Author Joe Chianakas – This will occur from 2:15 p.m. to 3 p.m., in the Lecture Recital Hall, Room 127F, East Peoria campus. Professor Chianakas will be discussing his newest horror novel, “Darkness Calls,” and his techniques for creating a horror story with heart.
  • Tom Stagg: Basketweaving Demonstration – This will occur from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 131C, East Peoria campus. Local artist Tom Stagg will be showing off basketweaving techniques.
  • Vocal Jazz Spring Performance – This will start at 7:30 p.m., in the Lecture Recital Hall, Room 127F, East Peoria campus. ICC’s Vocal Jazz and Washington High School Vocal Jazz will be performing jazz, blues, funk, and pop songs.

Friday, April 18:

  • Traci O’Dwyer: Monoprint Demonstration – This will occur from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., in Room 131C, East Peoria campus. Instructor O’Dwyer will be showing off the process of a layered monoprint.
