Quick Hits 3/9 – 3/21

With midterms coming up, students can study in the quiet rooms at the East Peoria campus library, or make an appointment to get some free help from ICC’s tutoring service, which students can find here.

Here are the upcoming events from March 9 to March 15:

Long events:

  • Student Life Writing Contest – The time to submit entries is from Feb. 10 to March 14. Students can send their poems, short stories, and research papers to Student Life and receive cash prizes. More details can be found here.
  • Win a Pie on Pie Day – This will be open from March 3 to March 13, with the winner being announced on March 14. Students will be able to vote in a Pi Day Poll and be entered into a drawing for a pie. The Pi Day Poll can be found here.
  • Drug and Alcohol Awareness Week – This will occur everyday this week from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting Monday, March 10, and will take place in the Student Lounge, East Peoria campus. Students will be able to learn about safe drinking habits, enjoy alcohol-free mocktail drinks, and play games and win prizes.
  • St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt – This will happen from March 10, at noon, to March 13, at  4 p.m., East Peoria campus. Figure out clues from Student Life’s Instagram account, @iccstudentlife, and find medallions hidden around campus to exchange them for gift card prizes at Student Life’s room, Room 303A.

Monday, March 10:

  • Double Take: Eric Zeigler and Aaron Ellison Art Exhibition – This will occur from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in the Performing Arts Center, East Peoria campus. Students will be able to see Zeigler and Ellison’s artwork combining 19th century photography and modern infrared and ultraviolet techniques.
  • Super Nova Forcefield: Joseph T. Swanson Art Exhibition – This will occur from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in Gallery Room 336B, East Peoria Campus. Students will be able to see Swanson’s artwork combining street art and studio painting.
  • Olivet Nazarene University Transfer Center Table Visit – This will occur from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Atrium outside the East Peoria bookstore. Olivet Nazarene University will have representatives there to answer any questions students may have about transferring there.

  • Iowa State University Transfer Center Table Visit – This will occur from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Atrium outside the East Peoria bookstore. Iowa State University will have representatives there to answer any questions students may have about transferring there.
  • Relax in the Stacks – This will occur from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the East Peoria Campus library. Students will be able to enjoy snacks and therapy dogs to help relieve stress.
  • Decorate Your Own Tote Bag – This will occur from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Student Center, Peoria campus. Students will be able to decorate their own tote bags and learn about student services offered at ICC, like Cosmo’s Cupboard.
  • D&D Weekly Club Meetings – This will occur from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., in Room 233B in the Academic Building, East Peoria campus. Plan epic adventures and play D&D with fellow students.
  • CRU Lifegroup Weekly Meetings – This will occur from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the Coffee Lounge in the Technology Center, East Peoria Campus. An interdenominational space for Christian students to connect with each other.
  • SAFE Club Research Presentation – This will occur from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., in Room 229B, at the Academic Building, East Peoria campus. Learn about bobcats in Peoria from two PhD students, Ellen Audia and Katie Buckman.
  • General Studies Visit Day – This will occur from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., in the East Peoria campus library. Interested visitors will be able to see what life is like as an ICC student by exploring the programs offered by ICC, touring the campus, and checking out the resources available to students.
  • Ramadan Fast and Iftar Dinner – This will start at 7:30 p.m., in the Dining Hall, East Peoria campus. Observe Ramadan by fasting from sunrise to sunset, then join the Iftar dinner offered at ICC. Entry is free for students with a Student ID.

Wednesday, March 12:

  • Craft and Culture: Women’s History Month – This will occur from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in the Student Lounge, East Peoria campus. Students will be able to enjoy hands-on crafts while learning about Women’s History Month.
  • Lunch with a Peer – This will occur from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the International Room, Room 304A, in the Academic Building, East Peoria campus. East Peoria campus. Students are encouraged to bring their own lunch to enjoy while getting to know fellow students and learn about ICC’s peer support program.
  • Free Meditation Sessions – This will occur from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., in the East Peoria campus library. Students will be able to recharge with a free meditation session.

  • D&D Weekly Club Meetings – This will occur from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., in Room 233B in the Academic Building, East Peoria campus. Plan epic adventures and play D&D with fellow students.

Saturday, March 15:

  • Peoria Pops Orchestra Presents: “A Night on Broadway” – This will occur from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., in the Performing Arts Center, East Peoria campus. Peoria Pops will be performing Broadway songs from various musicals, including Rent, Wicked, and Phantom of the Opera. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors who are 65 years old or older, and $5 for kids who are 12 years old and under. You can purchase tickets here.
