EAST PEORIA — After a rocky 8-7 start for the young ICC Cougar’s Softball team, many were wondering if the freshmen talent was all hype. Well the Lady Cougars soon put that case to rest, as they quickly shook off the freshman jitters and are proving to be just as dangerous as the hype indicated.

The Lady Cougars answered the challenge by silencing the naysayers and improving their overall record to 21-10. They’ve won 12 of their last 14 games, including an impressive eight game-win streak. The streak began at the Kankakee Tournament, as the Lady Cougars rebounded from their earlier loss that day by edging out Muskegon 7-5. The victories carried over the following day with pitching staff allowing only two runs in each game against East Central and Kankakee.

A successful weekend was exactly what the Lady Cougars needed to get their season back in order. The Lady Cougars were more energized as they went onto win their next five games. “We have a young pitching staff and early in the year they weren’t fully executing on hitting their spots. But now everybody seems to understand their role on the team and are settled in,” said Coach Heather Doty.

Coach Doty believes that the Cougars can do more. “Every game we mature and grow by learning something new about ourselves,” said Coach Doty. “Our ultimate goal is to get back to the National Tournament and place third or better.”

Cougar Pride night on April 21 will begin at 3:00 PM. The Lady Cougars will be hosting Parkland College and showing support of Breast Cancer Awareness. So wear pink and come out to the ICC Softball Field tonight in support of the Lady Cougars.
