Illinois Central Softball Enjoying the Busy Month of April

The Illinois Central softball team has played 20 games over the month of April, with 12 of those games being wins for the Cougars.
ICC played 47 percent of their regular season games during the month of April, but that doesn’t matter to sophomore P/1B Cassie Shaw.
Shaw, a sophomore from Moline, IL, loves the “jam-packed” schedule in April because “it feels like we play every other day, which makes it fun.”
When asked about playing so many games in the month of April, Shaw says “it definitely takes a toll on our bodies. We play up to eight games a week sometimes, and that can really challenge how tough you are mentally and physically.”
“I like being able to be sharp going into the Regional Tournament by playing these games and it helps us see how our competition is.”
Shaw has pitched in 10 of the 20 games during the month of April, with 5 out of the 10 being wins.
Shaw currently has a 2.34 ERA and has thrown two shutouts during the month of April.
ICC has won seven out of their ten home games in the month of April, with six of those wins being in a row to finish out the home schedule for the 2017 season.
In the last six home games, ICC has only given up 11 runs, and has scored a total of 68 runs. A lot of those runs have come from the bat of freshman P/SS Madi McCoy.
McCoy, a freshman from Washington, IL, has hit eight home runs in the month of April, with three of those home runs coming in the final six home games.
“April has definitely been a challenge and exhausting at times. Trying to keep up with school and so many games in a week is tough, especially when we have a lot of away games. But it is definitely worth the experience and the time has really flown by with how busy we are”, says McCoy when asked about playing so many games in April.
The Cougars start Regional Tournament play on May 4th at Eastside Center in East Peoria, IL.
