ICC’s Student Film Festival 2019
By Frank Toniny, 4/24/19
ICC held their annual Arts Week last week, which included the Student Film Festival on Wed., April 17th. There were a total of thirteen short films—including two movie excerpts from an ICC student’s new feature length film—and four awards given to five of those films. Giovanni Galindo got an honorable mention with his film Off the Land. Trenton Goodman took third with his comedy piece Supernatural Safe Space. There was a tie for second between Stephen Heritch’s Lost Time and Souffle by Nick Seaman and Harrison Jonas. What everyone was on their toes with anticipation to hear about was who took home the gold. It was Wes Brooks who got first with one of his two excerpts for his feature length film Space Prairie (which showcased on Fri., April 19th in the Lecture/Recital Hall).
Though the awards are very important and fun, watching all of the short films was the best part to see as an audience member. The genres ranged from Sci-Fi/Western to comedy to documentary to mystery and there was even an animated short film. Even if you’re not a fan of any of these genres, it was great to see how all of the creators worked with their own styles. The amount of dedication that these creators put into their short films was great; everyone brought their A-game!
If you did miss the festival this year and you’re starting to regret it, don’t worry, it’s an annual film festival for anyone to come watch and for all former and current ICC students to submit their short films to. For more information on what events and when visit ArtsAtICC.com.
