ICC to Host Holiday Hoops Tournament

EAST PEORIA — ICC is once again hosting what Coach Karrie Redeker calls one of the NJCAA’s most prestigious holiday tournaments for women’s basketball.

The eight-team Stoney Creek Inn Cougar Holiday Tournament runs from December 28 to December 30 beginning with Arizona’s Pima Community College taking on Illinois’ South Suburban College. Tip time is 12:00 p.m. and all games will be played at the CougarPlex.

Of the eight teams in this year’s tournament, seven have been ranked in the NJCAA Division II polls this year, with North Iowa Area Community College currently holding down the number two spot, followed by the host ICC Cougars at number three. The remaining teams include Kirkwood Community College, who is currently ranked seventh, and Pima Community College, Lake Michigan, South Suburban, and Cincinnati State Technical College, who have all recently fallen out of the top 20 rankings.

Rounding out the tournament is the NJCAA Div I team from Sauk Valley Community College, who opens play against the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on December 28.

The ability to host such a highly competitive tournament this early in the season has many benefits for ICC.

“We want to improve every day, whether it be in practice or games. This tourney will allow us to continue to build on what we are doing well and also see what we need to improve upon,” Coach Karrie Redeker said. “We will see great competition all three days so it will continue to make us battle-tested.”

The Cougars are off to a 10-1 start and look to continue that momentum and win the holiday tournament championship for the second consecutive year.
