For the fourth consecutive year, Illinois Central College is hosting a women’s basketball summer league.
The former, ‘Peoria girls summer league,’ consists of varsity squads for the upcoming 2015-16 school year and includes schools from Canton to the Bloomington/Normal area, while being made up mainly of schools from the Peoria area.
When asked about hosting the summer league, ICC women’s basketball head coach Karrie Redeker said the benefits of the summer league are, “getting high school players, coaches and fans in our amazing facilities.”
“Hopefully it can give us some good publicity, both athletically and as our school,” Redeker said. “Obviously we are very proud of our facilities here.”
It’s the good publicity that will lend any potential students the nudge when choosing their school in the future.
Every Tuesday beginning June 10 until July 1, 20 games will be played with four courts being used. Games begin at 5 p.m. with the last games beginning at 9 p.m
Notable participants this year include the recent state champion Morton Potters.
Redeker, along with the help of assistant coach Greg Martin, are responsible for running the league. From operating the scoreboards, running concessions and officiating games, many other members of ICC athletics are out ensuring a successful league.
