On Thursday, Jan. 20, Illinois Central College (ICC) held its monthly Board Of Trustees business meeting. The topics discussed included technology, retention statistics, maintenance costs, project proposals and employment opportunities.
After 20 years of utilizing Blackboard, ICC has begun transitioning to Canvas, with more than 130 professors already taking advantage of this new platform. ICC plans to be fully converted to Canvas by the summer semester of 2022.
Student enrollment is still on the decline at ICC. The bulk impact is seen in regards to General Education courses. Nationwide, one million college students are absent in classrooms. There is a 4% decrease from the fall semester of 2021, leading to an 8% decrease overall.
The board proposed updates to the Agricultural and Industrial Technologies Building (AIT). The board decided Midwest Engineering would lead the project based on its relationship with ICC on previous upgrades. There is no finalized bid, but the overall update is estimated to cost close to $1 million.
ICC’s employment opportunities remain available, with $1.8 million allotted to the cause. The positions range from housekeeping, maintenance, administrative, staff and education. Click here to explore the employment opportunities available.
The Board of Trustees is scheduled to reconvene on Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. and is open to the public.
