Illinois Central College (ICC) Baseball team continues to prepare for the spring season with scrimmage games. The season doesn’t start until spring, the team participates in friendly games to start getting ready for the league.
Coach Brett Kelley has been a baseball coach at ICC for 22 seasons. Coach Kelley brings an impactful historical career leading last year’s ICC Baseball team to finish in the top 3 in Region 24 and with a 20-28 overall record. There is a wave of new players coming in as freshmen. Coach Kelley is using these scrimmage games as a chance to unify the team and build trust among the players.
Tyler Bishop, a freshman from Washington, IL, is one of the new players on the team this year. Bishop expressed his love for the game. Bishop explains his choice of picking ICC due to the coaches and staff offering the opportunity to continue his pursuit of education while being able to play the game of baseball still as it is a game that he loves. Bishop will be number 13 in the upcoming spring season.
“We are feeling confident for the upcoming season. If our pitchers had the chance to get the other team down, and the hitters had good plays, I think it could be a great season with a lot of victories, Bishop said.
The team will face off against Lincoln Land Loggers in their next scrimmage game Wednesday, October 12, at 4 pm with a home-field advantage.
