Season three of Harbinger Student Media’s (HSM) Self-Care Tips&Tools Podcast is underway with a calming and breathable way to destress. Researched and produced by Stephanie McClaskey, managing editor at HSM, the podcast brings easily accessible events related to self-care in the surrounding communities.
”[This season] We will take our knowledge out into the community with us,” McClaskey states.
A brief grounding exercise at the beginning of the episode aimed to help listeners relax before expanding their minds to new self-care tips. In addition, explanations and examples of tools for everyday self-care are a great listen to manage all stress levels.
Touching on the importance of meditation, its growing popularity, and its mental health benefits is the primary focus of this episode. Meditation is explained as a tool to train your mind to focus and redirect thought patterns.
Developing the customary practice of meditation brings many benefits for students, including stress reduction, increased awareness of oneself, and better focus habits. The skills resulting from meditation will develop a daily tool that can deflate stress during unmanageable times.
McClaskey extended an invitation to a local free event being offered to encourage listeners to experience meditation firsthand. AnaPrana Healing Studio, 1617 Valle Vista Blvd in Pekin, provides a complimentary Singing Bowl Meditation during the grand opening event on Sunday, Aug 31, 2022, from 3:30 to 6:30 pm. The Singing Bowl Meditation will begin at 5:15 and last for 45 mins.
A review of the experience will be revealed in next week’s episode of Self-Care Tips&Tools.
