This summer at Illinois Central College’s East Peoria Campus, two major construction projects are in affect. The two major changes that are being made include the restroom facilities and the library.
According to Troy Hattermann, the chief architect at ICC, these are projects that have long been in the works and are finally coming to fruition. The two projects that began after the close of the spring semester at ICC will be finished by the fall semester.
The restroom facilities in the academic building of the East Peoria Campus will be upgraded, but they will not be done all at once. The restrooms in the 214 and 314 block of the campus as well as the restrooms located in the student lounge and cafeteria are the focus of construction at this point, as they will be renovated first. They will be enlarged, doors will come out further, and there will be a washroom area
The second construction project of the summer will involve the library, which is the bigger project of the two.
“The goal of the library is to make it a student success center,” Hattermann said.
The learning labs that are on the second floor, which include the Math Lab and the Studio, will eventually be moved to the library. The first step in this process is making a new entrance for the library.
“Right now it is tucked away and sometimes it’s hard to find.” Hattermann stated in regards to the current location of the library entrance. With construction, the entrance will be moved and made bigger.
Hattermann wants to make it so the entrance is more open. He wants people to be better able to see what is going on in the library. The goal is to make the library a good resource to students and faculty by combining as many resources as possible in that one area to better benefit everyone.
