Cougars Women’s Basketball dominates Danville Area
East Peoria, IL – The ICC Women’s Basketball team (12-3) were looking to get back to their winning ways, just five days after suffering their first home loss of the 2017-2018 season at the hands of the Kirkwood Eagles. Thursday night at Lorene Ramsey Gymnasium, it was the Jaguars from Danville Area that would square off against the #5 Cougars.
Things got off to a very fast start in the opening quarter. Emma Henderson had her long-range game working in the first ten minutes, hitting two of her three three-pointers in the quarter. Jasmine Levy (So. – Maywood, IL) also had a solid quarter, scoring five points in the first quarter. By quarter’s end, the Cougars already had a commanding 22-8 lead over the visiting Jaguars.
The second quarter was much of the same for both sides, as Danville Area really couldn’t get their offense where it needed to be against the Cougars. Levy had another good quarter for ICC, scoring six points to bring her grand total at halftime to 11 points. Henderson continued to have a good game, scoring five second-quarter points, three of those coming off another shot from distance. Henderson also had 11 points at the half, putting her and Levy tied for the game’s leading scorers after 20 minutes. The Cougars would have a 23-point lead headed into the halftime locker room, 36-13.
The Cougars kept the foot on the gas in the second half, and the scoring also became more balanced in the third quarter. Levy (2), Madison Faulkner (6), Aubrey Magro (2), Sia Williams (2), Kellyn Maynard (7), Abby Coates (2), and Isreal Evans (1) all scored in the third frame for ICC. The visiting Jaguars still didn’t have the offense clicking, and didn’t make a field goal in the third period. With just ten minutes to go in this one, the Cougars were out in front by 43 points, 58-15.
The fourth quarter was another good one for the Cougars scoring-wise, as five girls reached the scoring column, and the lead as well as the game got further and further away from Danville Area. The Cougars turned the ball over here and there in the late going of this one, but they still prevailed over the Jaguars by 48 points, the final score being 80-32 in favor of ICC.
