All In the Reflexes – A Look at ICC’s Talk Show
ALL IN THE REFLEXES
Live Talk Show features ICC Student’s and Success Stories
By: Kalee Christian
ICC-focused talk show hosted by author and instructor, Joe Chianakas. While it typically airs on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month, there was a special episode created for Camron. With a bachelor’s degree in studio art-drawing from Illinois State University, he set out to reimagine Chianakas’ cover for Rabbit in Red.
It’s always interesting to hear about success stories that come from where you grew up or went to school. For example, Peoria’s home to Richard Pryor and Joe Maddon to name a few. However, what if instead of just hearing about people who accomplished their dreams, what if you could actually see it happen? That’s the special opportunity that almost 300 viewers got the night of Wednesday, Feb. 17.
Camron Johnson is a 2013 Illinois Central College graduate who won Best in Show in the illustration category at both of ICC’s annual art shows in 2012 and 2013. He came back to do a special episode of All in the Reflexes. All in the Reflexes is a live, ICC-focused talk show hosted by author and instructor, Joe Chianakas. While it typically airs on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month, there was a special episode created for Camron. With a bachelor’s degree in studio art-drawing from Illinois State University, he set out to reimagine Chianakas’ cover for Rabbit in Red.
Johnson worked exclusively with ink on the drawing. He spoke highly of ink drawing, stating that it helped him to be a little more fearless when it came to the final product. It’s an easy media to work with, “you can always add a bit more water to any mistakes” to help them melt into the photo. Though drawing is not the only form of art that Camron enjoys. He has also composed books, graphic novels, and even a series called Poems for Turtles: The Slow & The Ugly along with Thy Neighbor: Engage, and Troubleshoot. His newest series of work titled “Rust” will be on display at Behind the Glass Fine Art Gallery located in downtown Bloomington from March 1-31. Here, one can get the chance to see Camron live once more, or for the first time if you missed All in the Reflexes. On March 19, he will be doing a live demo at Behind the Glass from 5p.m.-9p.m. His work can also be found on his webpage www.camronjohnson.com or on his Instagram @camronjohnsonillustrations.
If you are interested in catching an episode of All in the Reflexes, March will hold some exciting ICC students and graduates including basketball player Matt Long, communication major Kayla Fast, and ICC graduate and sports broadcasting major Tyler Brown. Episodes are scheduled for March 9 with a special spring break episode airing on March 23rd. You can find these episodes live on Chianakis’ YouTube or Facebook.
